Product Description

Playset comes with a "dirt covered" percy and a figure 8 track layout. There is a tethered brush that the child can use to pretend to give percy a wash down. Then roll percy to the entrance and press down on the roof. As you do the roller spin and pull percy into the engine wash. There is also a bridge on the other side of the track for percy to go thru. The set folds up and the engine wash snaps over the set and has a red carry handle for take a long play.

Thomas the Train: Take-n-Play Sodor Engine Wash

Customer Reviews

Most take-n-play sets are great, but NOT this one. My son loves his Thomas and friends trains and we have several other of the portable play sets. I have always been impressed with their durability and design. Until this one. Right out of the box it looked more cheaply made than expected. Unfolded it and one of the hinges came apart. The hinges on every other play set we have are well made with metal pins in them. Hinges on this one are completely plastic and do not even have a pin that goes through the hinge, they just snap together. This was a birthday present for my son and of course he wanted to play with it right away. I put it back together for him to play with, but soon realized there was another major problem. ITS TOO SHORT! While it will work with the "muddy" Percy that came with it, several other of the slightly taller trains will not fit through the wash. We also got him a "muddy" James set to go along with the wash, but James is just barely too tall. The wash only needs to be maybe 1/4 inch taller and it would be just fine. This is one of the newer play sets and it is nowhere near the quality I have come to expect with the take-n-play toys. Once my son goes to bed tonight I am packing this back up and sending it back. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!

The Take-n-Play line is a GREAT investment to make for your little one! This engine wash has SO many cute details! One side of the wash facility has a big "Sodor ENGINE WASH" sign, underneath which is an open "window" through which you see overflowing bubbles and watch Percy move through! When you position the usually bright green 6 Percy's dirt-speckled front (he's included!) to where he's touching the yellow washing mechanism under the "ENTRANCE" sign, then press the button on top, the washers incrementally move Percy through until he eventually pops out of the other end (marked with "EXIT" inside an arrow) through several hanging strips! The track itself is a LARGE figure 8 and features a little bridge. (The only disappointment was that it was supposed to have had a tethered brush - ours doesn't, but that could just mean Grandpa accidentally tossed it out with the packing!) This neat set was featured on the TnP 2011 Collector Checklist, Fisher-Price's MSRP is $22, and I bought my grandson's for about a buck more ($22.99). A GOOD portion of our basement is now a wonderful Sodor land of make believe that he loves to visit with all of his trains (and Grandma!), and the beauty of these TnP sets is that he can choose one to easily disconnect from the others, close up and take with us on excursions! I think half of his 18 TnP playsets have MSRPs of under $25 (Tidmouth Tunnel, Tote-a-Train, Percy's Mail Delivery, Thomas at the Farm, Colin at the Wharf, Sir Handel at Great Waterton, Toby at Trotter's Farm, Sodor Engine Wash, Talking Diesel's Fuel ; Freight Delivery) - they're definitely the simplest and easiest to "TAKE N PLAY" with! AND... new in 2012 is the Take-n-Play Sodor Paint Shop playset (including Bill)! That's on my shopping list as soon as it's more widely available and comes down in price... the cheapest I've seen it is $17.99 at ToysRUs, but it's the same set up as the rest of the $17 sets, so I think I'll just be patient and see if Amazon lists it cheaper! It'll be interesting to see if a couple of playsets based on new characters in 9/2012's "Blue Mountain Mystery" movie - Merrick (a steam crane) and Owen (a rock elevator) - become part of the line!
