Customer Reviews

It's called take and play, but when folded there isn't anywhere to put the bridge supports not very convenient in my opinion. My 2 year old does like it and carries it all over the house and im constinently looking for the bridge supports it does not work without them. I think the take and play series are great just not this one. Notice the pics when folded you only see the back, that's because its not that easy to fold and no storage for the pieces

As first time grandparents, my husband and I wanted to start some type of collection for our grandson that he could possibly pass along to his own kids one day. Our grandson was 2 1/2 at the time, and had been talking a lot about a certain train named Thomas (a little fella whom - now hard to believe! - we'd never heard of.) After doing some research, it seemed the Take-n-Play line might be the perfect investment to engage and encourage his active imagination, as well as provide a fun way for us to interact with him. What a rewarding decision... we've had SO much fun together with this quality line of trains, vehicles and playsets! As he approaches 4, a large portion of our basement has become a wonderful Sodor land of make believe that we all enjoy visiting - and continues to hold his interest, which is quite a feat given the tendency at that age to move in and out of toy phases so quickly!
As seen in 2011's "Day of the Diesels" movie, this playset features the brand new, spanky-clean Dieselworks that the engines all pitched in to build after the old, oily Dieselworks was destroyed by a fire! The Dieselworks first appeared on Take-n-Play's 2011 Collector Checklist, and with Fisher-Price's 12/11 MSRP of $35, I feel it's worth that price (I paid a penny less, and it was one of my grandson's 2011 Christmas gifts)- he LOVES it! Couldn't resist going ahead and giving him the rest of the Day of the Diesel introductions ahead of time (Den, Dart, Belle, Flynn, Sidney, Paxton, Norman and Talking Percy at the Dieselworks, as well as the Percy ; Kevin to the Rescue four pack)! This set - full of fun features and great detailing - has joined the rest of his playsets. The only thing I'd caution is that if you want a set your youngster can EASILY and QUICKLY take on the road with you, you might want to consider one of the $30 ; under MSRP playsets instead (Tidmouth Sheds, Cranky at the Docks, Knapford Station, Percy's Mail Delivery, Thomas at the Farm, Colin at the Wharf, Toby at Trotter's Farm, Sir Handel at Great Waterton, Tidmouth Tunnel, Sodor Engine Wash, Talking Diesel's Fuel ; Freight Delivery, Tote-a-Train Playbox and probably 2012's new Sodor Search ; Rescue Centre). Another new 2012 set, with the same set up as the other $17 sets, is "Sodor Paint Shop" - that's on my shopping list, but the cheapest I've seen it is $17.99 at ToysRUs, so I think I'll be patient and wait until I see if Amazon lists it cheaper!) Although my grandson really loves his more elaborate sets (The Dieselworks, Rock Quarry Run, Thomas at Pirate's Cove, Rescue from Misty Island, Rumbling Gold Mine Run, Load ; Go), I wouldn't recommend them for transport... they're great if you plan to keep them set up at home! I'll have to wait and see what another new 2012 set (Engine Lift Repair Shop) entails to determine whether my little guy will be able to take them it us on excursions or just keep it set up in the basement!
